CIGARETTE,SOCIETY and SUSTAINABILITY

Let me start with a minute statistics.
The google hits statistic data say that there has been 29 million google hits on the term called sustainability, which precisely means that multitudes of work are being done on paper for sustainable awareness, multitudes of speeches with no end inference are being made, multitudes of awareness drives are being organised sans any results.

Problem is that generation by generation our society has inculcated a habit of tolerance, a habit of getting used to any thing. We are getting more and more occidental, deviating from the divine idea of peace and pursuit of happiness within.
Just days back going through one blog I saw one textual photograph ."cigarettes are only sexy in photographs" was inscribed on that.To most of my friends and colleagues I have talked ,the most common conclusion I have derived is that they all tried smoking just being infatuated by the photographic appeal. And this initiation leads to chain reaction in the presence of catalysts like stress, work load or may be entertainment. They all have passed through a phase of time when a cigarette after a half an hour work turns out to be inevitable .
Well there is one straight line appeal that if you can't stop it ,just try to cut short it at least for the sake of the environment and sustainability of this environment.
Statistics collected from different sources say
1.600 million trees are cut per year to meet the cigarette demand. And being more precise ,cigarette filters are non biodegradable .
2.It is polluting the environment 10 times more than diesel engine exhaust.
3.A cigarette smoke releases 4000 chemicals in air.
4.Tobacco plants are very much disease prone ,and hence we need a large amount of pesticides for its survival.
Well by talking about cigarette one more thing that comes in my mind is utilitarian human behaviour .
When we go to the market for buying vegetables,we don't prefer organic fruits and vegetables.Just because its costly.Just because it will add 2 more rupee to budget line. And that is ridiculous. If a cigarette of Rs 10/piece does not threaten your budget then a surplus of Rs 2/kg also should not.
This is an irony of statement that we cant manage with a Rs 2 surplus but we easily manage with plastic bags.We never ask for degradable bags or paper bags.May be because we don't have time enough for that .The question is what is the motto of living this life that ends to a future marked with synthetic ashes outclassing serenity.

Some times I feel that this whole idea of sustainability is oxymoronic.Whatever we are devoted or indulged in our daily life ,we say its for our future ,future generation ,our children. But the roads we have take is not even sustainable enough to give a certificate of existence to upcoming future, future generation or children.
Being an integral element of our society we are to anchor some shouldering responsibilities.Every one among us have some followers, have a surrounding that imitates. We need to learn the required metamorphosis ,we need to teach every one an attitude that rightfully distinguishes right and wrong.Every drop counts.Every step counts.Trifles make perfection, perfection is no trifle.

"Teach yourself.Teach every one his real nature.Call upon the sleeping soul and see how it awakes.Power will come.Glory will come.Goodness will come and every thing that is excellent will come when this sleeping soul is roused to self conscious activities."says Swami Vivekananda.

On a softer note:

Tell me what's the mostly used anonymous line that comes in your mind.
"objects in mirror are closer than they appear"said one of my colleague ,precisely he is a bike freak sort of studd .
"with no power comes no responsibility".A bit t-shirt stuff(mostly girl's t-shirt) it seems to be.Earlier they used to print "with power comes responsibility".I sometimes wonder if power is a metaphoric emblem of breast maturity...............
"no body does it better....".Nops.Lets be a little ethical.
"Honesty is the best policy".
what!I mean who says like this these days.Policy comes from polity, and where ever there is polity ,there must not be morality atleast.
"Cigarret is injurious to health"I proposed and that's it.
good night
just keep busy living.

KERALA TOURISM :DAY 2 and ALLEPPEY BACKWATERS

May be because " It's always our self we find in the sea.”   or may be because the strong analogy water hold with life as it goes on irrespective of whatever it dissolves ...or may be the inductive serenity , You never get tired of water . “It is life, I think, to watch the water. A man can learn so many things.”  ―  Nicholas Sparks ,  The Notebook Comfort ,freedom, an aura of redemption and the sunny rays reflecting back from waves ,kissing my cheeks and knowingly or unknowingly melting the sun cream ...I have never expected more than this from nature . The day with Alappuzha/Alleppey was precisely a floating day  :Six good hours of boating across Alleppey backwaters . And it all began like this    The panoramic view of back waters taken from boat    Coconut trees have its own charm."And the kerala coconut beer is a must try, its sumptuous in taste and cheaper than kingfisher "said one resident. Anyway it w...

KERALA TOURISM : namkeen paani and day 1

Before I start putting the glances of god’s own country as they say ,that train journey extended over  the span of 48 hours deserves a firm mention . The worst part of story was : no pantry car ,that simply means food was an issue and was like a setback to foodie people .People were racing between the halt time of train bringing something and something as its good to have something than nothing .And the best part of the story was : Chinua Acheyba . I was rushing through his cult classic magnum opus “ things fall apart ” till end of the journey before I completed it . And when ever I passed by a lingering line ,it was a time to take a break and discuss. "When the moon is shining the cripple becomes hungry for a walk." Anyway the breaks  were variably filled by playing cards, sleeping and of course arguments. Prolixity has never been alien to this country . You just need t...
